Are you hiding something like the swan in this picture? Hypnosis can help you get rid of that which holds you back! While I usually do not ask my clients to prepare before coming for their Transpersonal Hypnosis session, there are a few things you can do to get ready. If you are coming for help quitting a habit, fear, or limitation, you can begin to think about how nice it will be when you are free from it. How will your life be better? Since Hypnosis involves communication with the subconscious, engaging in activities that put you in touch with your subconscious--to the extent that you are comfortable--is good preparation. You may start paying attention to your dreams, meditations, journaling, and random thoughts. You need not write down all the details of your dreams. Rather, pay attention to what strikes you as important or unusual and your reaction to them. I would invite you to share some of this information at the session so that we can work through it together and important concepts can be used in your suggestions. Remember that this hypnosis is client-centered, so you will determine what we use and what we leave behind. If you are seeking help to quit a nicotine addiction, know that you must throw away your smoking paraphernalia-- ashtrays, all cigarettes except one, pipes, tobacco--before you come to your first session. At a time of your choosing, before you arrive for your first session, you may make a ritual of smoking etc. one last time knowing that you will never have to do that again. Immediately throw away your pipe, cigarette pack, or remaining tobacco. Many people do not even finish it as they are already on the path to becoming a non-smoker. If you are under a Doctor's care for a mental or emotional condition, or for a heart condition, I would need to have a release form stating that hypnosis would be safe for you. Also, in the case of personal growth work or emotional conditions, it is good for us to work as a team and ensure that the hypnosis is in line or not contradictory to you and your therapist's plan. If you have many things that you would like to work on (fear of closed places, fear of escalators, fear of bridges, public speaking, smoking, other addictions, weight, fear of driving, other phobias), you could try to pick the most important one. We will be focusing on one goal at a time for about a month, depending on the goal.
